Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Known Technologies, Inc. ("Known", "we", "us"), a Delaware corporation, governing your access to and use of known.id, the Known profile system, and any related services (the "Service"). By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum digital-consent age in your jurisdiction) and able to enter a binding contract. Some verification steps (e.g. government ID) require you to be of legal majority where you live.

2. Your account

  • You are responsible for safeguarding your credentials and for activity under your account.
  • One person, one account. Do not create accounts for others or transfer your account.
  • Notify us at security@known.id of any suspected unauthorized access.

3. Verification — your representations

By submitting any verification, you represent and warrant that:

  • The government ID you submit is your own, currently valid, and unaltered.
  • The live selfie and voice recording depict you in real time and are not deepfaked, recorded, played back, or AI-generated.
  • The phone number you submit belongs to you and you are authorized to receive SMS at it.
  • The social profile URLs you link belong to you and you control them.
  • The location, name, and bio you publish are accurate to the best of your knowledge.

Submitting another person's identity, a fabricated identity, or any synthetic media is grounds for permanent ban, reversal of any badges issued, and may be reported to law enforcement.

4. Consent to verification processing

You expressly consent to the collection and processing of your identity documents, live selfie, liveness video, voice recording, phone number, and submitted social profiles by Known and its verification providers (Veriff, Twilio, our AI provider, Firecrawl) as described in the Privacy Policy. You acknowledge that biometric information (face geometry, voice characteristics) will be processed to confirm your identity. You may withdraw consent and delete your account at any time from Settings.

5. SMS terms

By submitting a phone number for verification you consent to receive a one-time verification code via SMS sent by Known through Twilio. Message and data rates may apply. Frequency: one code per request, limited by our rate limits. Reply STOP to opt out; reply HELP for help. We do not send marketing SMS.

6. Your content and license

You retain all ownership in the content you submit (profile photo, bio, links, etc.). You grant Known a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, adapt for display, and publicly distribute your public profile fields solely to operate, promote, and display the Service. This license ends when you remove the content or delete your account, except to the extent already incorporated in backups or required for legal compliance.

7. Acceptable use

You will not:

  • Impersonate anyone, misrepresent your identity, or upload someone else's ID.
  • Submit deepfaked, AI-generated, edited, or otherwise synthetic selfies, ID images, or voice recordings.
  • Use the Service for harassment, hate speech, threats, sexual content involving minors, or any illegal activity.
  • Scrape, crawl, reverse engineer, or attempt to derive source code from the Service, except as expressly permitted by law.
  • Circumvent rate limits, abuse the SMS or verification systems, or trigger SMS pumping.
  • Interfere with security features, attempt to access other users' accounts, or probe for vulnerabilities outside our security disclosure program.
  • Use the Service to build a competing identity-verification product.

8. Trust signals — disclaimer

Known's badges represent our best-effort verification at a moment in time using third-party providers and automated checks. They are not a guarantee of any individual's identity, character, future conduct, employment status, professional qualifications, or trustworthiness. You must use independent judgment when relying on information shown on a Known profile.

9. Third-party services

The Service integrates Veriff, Twilio, Google, Firecrawl, Sentry, and our AI provider. Your use of those features is also subject to their terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party services beyond our reasonable control.

10. Termination

You may delete your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend or terminate your account, with or without notice, if you violate these Terms, present a security or fraud risk, or if continued provision is unlawful. Sections that by their nature should survive (ownership, disclaimers, indemnity, limitation of liability, dispute resolution) survive termination.

11. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, or uninterrupted availability. We do not warrant that the Service will be error-free or that any verification result is conclusive.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Known and its officers, employees, and suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Our aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of US$100 or the amounts you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

13. Indemnity

You will indemnify and hold harmless Known from any claim, demand, loss, or damages, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising from (a) your content, (b) your violation of these Terms, (c) your violation of any law or third-party right, or (d) your misuse of the Service.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You and Known agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Delaware for any dispute not subject to arbitration. Where required by your local law, you retain any non-waivable consumer rights.

15. Changes

We may update these Terms. Material changes will be announced in-product or by email and take effect on the date posted. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
